Topic 6: Terrorism
Introduction
This week we continue our examination of the impact and incidence of terrorism. The readings take up some of the issues discussed in relation to financial crime, and how that can be used to fund terrorism and how these are linked with international and organised crime. The reasons behind the rise in terrorist activity, as well as the motivations of terrorists, will be discussed, largely in relation to organised and transnational crime. Key definitions will be provided, and discussed in association with basic concepts. The learning objectives for this week are to:

Define terrorism
Understand what is meant by an ‘terrorism’
Determine what types of activities are involved
Understand links to organised crime
Demonstrate links to other aspects in this unit, particularly –
Drug trade
Financial crime
Understanding the changes in organised crime
